Looking Good

A ‘collection’ tin

You’ll need:

  • A biscuit tin, box or similar
  • A large collection of old stamps
  • PVA glue
  • Water
  • A jam jar or paper cup
  • Old paint brushes.

Some people (called philatelists) collect stamps from around the world as a hobby. Many charities, too, collect old stamps to raise money.

Paint your tin with PVA and stick the stamps on to decorate it. The stamps should be placed like a mosaic so there are no gaps in between them. Then paint the covered tin with a coat of PVA mixed with water. This will act as a varnish, giving the finished product a shiny surface. The PVA/water mix will dry clear so don’t worry if it looks milky white when it’s first applied.

You can use the finished tin for your own collection of pencils, stones, shells, bookmarks, marbles, key rings or whatever you like.
